Easter

Easter is a spring holiday and the largest and oldest Christian holiday since the Christ Hs supposes to have saved the world with his resurrection. For the believers across Slovenia there is a blessing of Easter on Holy Saturday.  At the blessing all the ingredients have a symbolic meaning: a piece of meat represents Christ’s body, horse radish the nails with which he was nailed on a cross and the cake (potica) reminds of the thorny crown.

Easter eggs in the Christian icongraphology symbolise the resurrection, renewed creation and hope as well as the drops of Christ’s blood. The eggs symbolise the shelter, mother's lap and security.
